10 Minutes of Mindfulness Can Change the World

Most of us would love to make meditation a part of our lives.  Unfortunately, when we actually get around to trying it (rather than just reading or thinking about it), we feel distracted, think we’re doing it wrong, or feel like we just can’t spare the time.  It’s a real mental battle just to push the distractions away for a few minutes of silence.

Mindfulness expert, Andy Puddicombe, has a simple message about how we approach meditation.  In the short video below he shares his belief that meditation—even just a little bit!—is critical to a healthy mind and life, and thinks everyone has the ability and time to do it.  He explains how, with just 10 minutes of mindfulness a day, we can change the way we see the world.

How can you argue with 10 minutes?  I think you’ll find his message inspiring enough that you’ll want to take a few extra minutes for a little meditation at the beginning or end of your next yoga practice.

Is Your Yoga Earth-Friendly?

In line with the principle of Ahimsa, which translates as “non-harming,” as yogis we’re continually looking for ways to live in a peaceful way on and off the mat. This includes seeking ways to minimize our impact on the environment. Living green and remaining in balance with nature is not just something to practice at […]

Your neck, jaw and dominant arm may also be tense. This common habit, known as “forward head posture,” can lead to a wide array of […]

    • Ada, Thanks for reading:) Happy to hear you’ve figured out how to include meditation into your busy day. I hadn’t actually heard of The Yoga Revolution, but I looked it up and it sounds interesting–I’ll have to take a closer look. Have a great day! ~Brian

  2. Love this post! I recently got off the phone with my sister, and let me tell you, SHE WAS A DIFFERENT person. I was so thrilled I asked what happened. It was akin to the newly in love, but way better! She told me that she meditates. She was introduced to meditation at exactly the right time by exactly the right person when she was absolutely ready to have a happy life.

  3. Lovely post! Thank you for sharing!

  4. I love how you write this post. We all need a time to just meditate and be silent. It lets us to achieve comfort and peace of mind especially if we are being troubled by some predisposing factors that tend to affect us.

  5. Thank you for this post. I was just listening to a podcast the other day that said in a study of folks who took time to meditate and those who didn’t , the meditators had about a 70% less chance of stress related heart and health conditions than the control group. I can definitely see why.

  7. I follow TED talks from a variety of different blogs but this one brought home some pretty interesting ways for me to look at where i’m going. I don’t spend enough time “doing nothing” – seems I need to spend a bit more time doing this to be more mindful and less distracted.
    Thanks millions.

  8. I loved the TED Talks video. I remember my first time doing meditation… crazy hard. Couldn’t not think at all. My mind was just pinging all over the place. I find it easier if you time yourself though and it’s worked so far for me. Thanks so much for sharing your insight as well as the video.
